Spain called on member states of the European Union to suspend the free trade agreement with Israel due to its “actions in Gaza and Lebanon.”
According to Euronews, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez indicated that his country’s vision is consistent with Ireland’s on the necessity of suspending the free trade agreement with Israel.
Spain and Ireland had held talks with other countries within the European Union several months ago aimed at reviewing the partnership agreement between the Union and Israel due to Tel Aviv’s violations of the human rights clause contained in the agreement.
Israel has since struck the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which includes troops from both Spain and Ireland. This, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said, is “unacceptable and violates the rules of the United Nations.”
